Yeah, I can't remember the last time I wrote a poem that didn't sound like I wanted to slit my writs, which obviously I wouldn't want to share since it would give the impression of depression, from which I do not suffer. My writing is often melancholic for reasons that elude even me. It's always sort of just lingering.
This one's about this past weekend I guess.
Step, step, to the beat of a drum
Following two and leading one
Play, play for the joy of the crowd
Smile to hear joy voiced aloud.
March; march, for you told me to
And if once said, you told me true.
Speak, speak; let me hear that voice
That which stole the path of choice
Lead, lead, I’ll put no foot astray
Transport me back into that day
I traced your steps, an intricate dance
Everything, nothing to do with chance.
Please turn not away from me
Head one selfish, quiet plea:
Venture far if such is fate,
But return here, ‘ere the hour’s late.
